Shoes or No Shoes on Your Vibration Plate? That is the Question...

For many of you this has become a personal choice, a comfort thing. If you are a new vibration plate user know there are arguments for both wearing and not wearing shoes. Today's article looks at both sides of this debate so you can make the best choice for you.

Lots of the marketing out there showing pictures of people wearing shoes while on a vibration plate. Common too if you are using a machine at a gym or club to see this.

In gyms, clubs, corporate workplaces and trade shows where lots of people are using machines it can be a a requirement for hygienic reasons. For your own long term use and for any service providers, there are multiple reasons to drop the shoes

Scientifically, there are many benefits to exercising in bare feet. Remember that a vibration plate is just a tool that makes exercise, even just moving easier and more effective in less time. Let’s briefly look at the benefits of exercising barefoot.

  • Stronger Feet & Ankles: Barefoot exercise activates small foot muscles, improving strength, balance, and joint stability.

  • Better Proprioception: Direct contact can enhance sensory feedback, improving body awareness and reducing risk of an injury.

  • Improved Balance & Stability: Without shoes, toes can spread naturally, providing a stronger, more stable base of support.

  • Natural Alignment & Posture: Barefoot movement encourages a more natural gait, reducing strain on joints and promotes better posture.

  • Increased Flexibility: Allowing the foot to move more freely boosts flexibility and range of motion in toes, feet, and ankles.

  • Mental & Sensory Benefits: Barefoot grounding can reduce stress, improve focus, and enhance mindfulness during activities other tasks or activities.

Shoes to a degree can dampen or absorb the stimulation and may actually prevent the stimulation from being correctly transferred to the body. Your running or walking shoes usually have arch supports, you may even wear insoles, orthotics or support if you have issues with your feet or other medical concerns. These are worn to correct foot and ankle problems without surgery.

A vibration plate can offer similar corrective benefits just by your feet being directly in contact with the plate. Our feet & hands have all those little muscles, tendons & ligaments and when training on higher frequencies we activate more of them but in a passive, ultra low impact way.

I personally have seen more overall improvement without the use of footwear. Conditions like plantar fasciitis often disappear over time as well and improvements in circulation, swelling & pain, sensation related to neuropathy and an overall improvement in the strength and structure of the feet & ankles.

This trainer and so many of my clients prefer no shoes or socks for most applications. We weren’t born with shoes on, we as a society are inactive and sit too much and our feet can lose proper function. We do very little in the way of specific exercises for our feet or our hands until there is a problem with them. Use them for their intended purpose on your machine, you’ll be pleasantly surprised. Put a little more spring in your step – literally!

This time of year can be a blessing but I know some are stressing too. The holidays can bring many memories and emotions to the surface, good or bad and I want you to ensure you are making both your physical and mental health a priority. You can pour from an empty cup as they say…
