My Doctor Said I Can’t Use A Vibration Plate... But I Don’t Understand Why?
Have you ever left your care-provider's office with more questions than answers? When it comes to vibration plates, they are not widely understood and its not uncommon false assumptions are made advising you not to use one or worse, claiming potential harm.
Medical professionals have so many things they need to be versed on, when it comes to a vibration plate - unless it’s a personal interest to them they often fall into the category of “no” because they simply cannot offer advice on something they are unaware of.
Are vibration plates safe? Can you use one with a medical condition? You should of course first speak with your doctor or care provider before starting any form of new activity, but where do you turn when they know nothing about what you are asking? Even worse, what if they say there may be potential harm?
For my regular users, this becomes more challenging when you have already been using one, know how safe they are, how good they make you feel and now you can’t use it?
Let’s simplify this discussion a bit. What you are really asking is when its okay to resume activity, and what type is appropriate for you personally in your recovery or overall health. You usually have the activity conversation as part of your recovery plan.
I have NEVER in my life ever heard of a doctor or therapist telling someone to not move for 6 months, generally you are given parameters or some recommended activities and time frames.
REMEMBER a vibration plate is just a tool - one that makes exercise positions even just moving easier, with more benefits in less time. They are lower impact than walking, and are probably the easiest way to get circulation and lymph moving with little to no effort on your part. Vibration plates are in fact ideal for helping with recovery.
When we were kids and told “don’t touch that” or “don’t watch that” didn’t you wonder why??? For me and my friends sometimes the curiosity was overwhelming, often sending us straight to touching or watching whatever was off limits. As kids we didn’t always just do what we were told. I honestly think we as a society have lost our curiosity, at times we too easily takes someone’s word based on their position in life and don’t look further into it ourselves.
In my dream world, it would be our caregivers and health providers that introduce us to all the wonderful things vibration plates can offer our body and mind. It will be sometime until the ‘shakey machine’ stereotype fades and their potential healing effects are truly embraced. Until then you and the public at large are left to your own research and comparison.
To those that do reach out looking for clarity good for you…stay curious. I’m glad to see you researching and seeking your own information.
If you are dealing with a specific medical condition or if you have been afraid to pursue this due to a poor experience don’t hesitate to reach out if you have questions. Few companies selling these machines understand let alone assess your individual needs nor how to help manage them.
