Not sure where April has gone but here is it quickly coming to an end. I need to confess that I’ve had entirely too much clearance Easter candy this week.

Lets get to a recap of of the common vibration plate questions we’ve covered so far.

REMINDER - If you’ve followed my starting guidelines or are using a plate now, you may know from experience how to modify positions, settings or time for your symptoms or where you may be at physically. Over time you gain comfort in experimenting, changing things up as needed and listening to the feedback your body is giving you.

Now let’s take a look at this week’s 3 Common Vibration Plate Questions.

1) How LONG Can I Use a Vibration Plate For? Many ask similar questions like; if their machine can go longer than the preset time, how long can I use each day, or what happens if I go too long? The answer is simple and at the same time not so simple.

Understanding WHY you plan to use a machine - symptoms vs fitness and being realistic with where you are physically starting at is the first consideration, trying to make up for years of inactivity or health conditions will not be reversed but starting out at max time.

If hoping to just set and forget it on your vibration you’re likely setting yourself up to over do it. Easy to go too long or use too much intensity when first starting out REGARDLESS of your current level of conditioning. How long and how often to use your plate will cary depending on whether you want to manage symptoms vs fitness gains.,

See my video How Long Should I Use a Vibration Plate and let me simplify this with more understanding and tips to help you find the right balance for your goals.

2) How Long After Surgery Can I Use a Vibration Plate? Resuming your day to day activities after surgery or an injury depends is usually a graduated process, you don’t jump right back in at the same intensity. Depending on the type of surgery or injury, may be some rehab first, or modified exercises at first before heading back to the gym or even a work situation full force.

Same general rules apply for your plate. Many ways to modify use to actually boost recovery and manage symptoms. To those versed in vibration plates, it’s just as much a rehab/recovery tool as it is an exercise alternative. HOW YOU USE a plate is always driven by where you’re at physically. Your experience in using a vibration before a surgery or injury helps in understanding how to modify poses and setting for your comfort.

The “fear” that some have of using machine is totally different if using for the first time after a major health issue. Reach out for experienced guidance, you'll be glad you did.

3) Shoes or NO Shoes - That is the Question… another common debate when this question comes up. For many using a plate now, it’s become a personal choice, sometimes a combo but ultimately it’s a comfort thing. If you are a new vibration plate user know there are arguments for both wearing and not wearing shoes.

Scientifically, there are many benefits to exercising in bare feet. Remembering of course that a vibration plate is just a tool that makes exercise, even just moving easier and more effective in less time. You will develop your own preference over time trust me.

If you are wearing orthotics now, or have been advised to wear footwear for activity, I recommend starting with them and experiment as you gain some experience and comfort in using your plate. See Shoes or No Shoes on a Vibration Plate for more on this debate to help decide what’s best for you.
